Tough times don’t last, tough people do. Same has been the case with Irfan Pathan, a bowler who was once the heart of Indian Cricket Team. In a recent setback to his already dwindling career, Irfan Pathan failed to manage a single bid for himself at the IPL Auctions for this season yesterday. Though shattered by this setback, Irfan Pathan is still optimistic of making a comeback to the International circuit.
After making a sensational debut in 2003-04 against Australia, Irfan Pathan soon became the spearhead of Indian bowling attack. His enigmatic swing bowling was soon complemented by his flamboyant batting style. He was soon opening both bowling as well batting for India.
The downfall of his career was mostly credited to injuries. However, no injuries were tough enough to break him. He kept fighting hard and made sure he remained in contention for making a comeback. It has been more than four long years now that Irfan Pathan hasn’t played an international cricket match despite performing well.
However, his axing from IPL was a setback too tough for his fans to bear. Not just his fans, all the Cricket Pundits kept scratching their heads too, wondering why a man like Irfan Pathan remained unsold. If not for anything else, his experience of 102 IPL matches was a stat good enough to earn him an IPL contract.
Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra have already proven that all it takes is just a strong will to upstage a comeback. We hope Irfan Pathan proves his words and makes a comeback that can make all his fans proud of their hero again.
